Emily's - The Bronte Birthplace

Many people automatically associate Haworth with the Bronte sisters. Not many people know that the sisters were actually born in the small village where I live in Bradford - Thornton.

Patrick Bronte and his wife Maria moved to the parsonage in Thornton in 1815 and stayed in the village for about 5 years before moving on to Haworth. Whilst they were living in Thornton the world famous Bronte sisters were born.

Over the years the Bronte birthplace has been not only a house but a museum, a butchers and even had a stint as bedsits. The house where the sisters were born has now started a new chapter as a beautiful coffee shop. Mark and Michelle De luca bought the property and have lovingly restored it to be the wonderful coffee shop that it is today.

The walls are decorated with the pages of Wuthering Heights and you can sit in front of the fireplace where the sisters were actually born. You receive a warm welcome as soon as you walk through the doors and after taking your seat, whether it be in the lounge on the plush sofas or in the main seating area at one of the sweet victorian school desks all you have left to do is decide on what delicious treats you are going to have from the menu. Whether its loose leaf tea, delicious hot chocolate, milkshake or vintage cordials there is something for everyone. If you are feeling a little peckish you can choose from the sweet treats like we did or opt for some gorgeous italian antipasto.

If you are ever in West Yorkshire I would definitely recommend you paying this delightful retreat a visit. We are so lucky to have this hidden gem in the village and I'm really passionate about supporting local business. You can find Emily's on Facebook (link here) but until then take a look at the photos below.

Bargain Bank Holiday Finds

Today I picked up some rather lovely things for some rather lovely prices. If you love a bargain as much as I do keep reading.

First of all I headed to Home Bargains after reading about some pretty Cath Kidston-esque pens on Becky's blog. I'm planning on doing Christmas hampers this year so wanted to pick up a few packs as stocking fillers. Needless to say when I got there I ended up leaving with more than the pens...

So first up are these pretty pens. There are three in a packet for just 69p. Granted they probably aren't the best quality but they look a lot like Cath Kidston and will be fab to pop in my handbag.

Next up I grabbed this sweet bunny nightlight. I was given one of these for christmas around 2 years ago. This was an absolute steal at £1.99 and will be a welcome addition to anyone's bedside table.

This Yankee Candle lookalike was only 49p. I couldn't believe it and I was guttered this was the last one as I wanted to buy 5 or 6 as stocking fillers. I will definitely be heading back and scouring the aisles for these each week!

I'm sure the other shoppers thought I was more than a little bit mental when they saw me piling 6 of these into my basket but I just couldn't resist. I know my girlfriends will absolutely love these adorable bunny ring holders and again these were an absolute steal at £1.99 I'm sure I saw these online recently for around £10!

Last but not least I picked up a few little bits and pieces for myself. I couldn't resist these Woodland Storage Boxes (£1.79). These are the perfect size for taking my snacks to work in. The fact that they are super cute also helps right? I also grabbed some pretty straws (89p) to drink my Pinterest worthy smoothies out of jam jars and some Sweet Pea room spray (99p)

After feeling thoroughly pleased with my purchases we nipped into Discounts UK. Whilst perusing the aisles for a support bandage I honed in on these Revlon nail polishes like a heat seeking missile. I already have a few of the Revlon Parfumerie Nail Polishes and actually really like them so I could not believe my eyes when I saw these for £1. Yes thats right £1!!! Once again like the Class A nut job that I am I started stock piling these into my shopping basket. These are currently priced at £6.49 in Boots. There was also a really good selection of colours too, I picked up a couple of each to add to my friends christmas hampers and plan on going back this week to check for more.

All in all I was absolutely thrilled with my finds today. There is something seriously satisfying about coming home with lots of really nice things after spending next to no money.

What do you think of my finds?

Things I see while Cycling #1

After a busy day a couple of weeks ago Craig and I decided to make the most of the last few hours of sun and head out for a quick bike ride. As you may or may not know my love of cycling continues to grow and I find myself venturing out most weekends. I thought it would be fun to start a little series going on Kelanjo sharing with you some of the things I see whilst cycling. I always have a camera with me, whether it just be my phone or my handy little Panasonic GF5. I thought it would be a nice chance to share some of the snaps I take whilst out and about.
We often get so caught up in the daily grind, busy jobs, running a house, we forget to take in the beautiful world around us. Heading out on my bike restores that balance for me. For you it may be a walk or a run but next time you have half an hour free head outside and breath in that fresh air. It will do you the world of good - promise.

TK Maxx Treats

I totally forgot how much I love TK Maxx. Granted it can be a little bit hit and miss sometimes but I popped in on Saturday and found some lovely little bits.

I went in with the sole aim of finding a glass jar to store my cotton pads in. Craig made a comment the other day that I have multiple half used packets of cotton pads littered across the bedroom and I realised he was right. Hell bent of having a Pinterest worthy storage solution we headed into town and after popping to the Post Office we made a beeline for TK Maxx.

It was one of those days where you want everything you see. I'm happy to say I did manage to show some restraint and left with only a few pretty items.

I found the rather lovely storage jar in amongst several other pretty jars and tins. Like I say I wanted everything I laid my eyes on so to say I only walked away with one jar is a minor miracle.

Its the perfect size for my bedside table and offers a rather more elegant alternative to my half empty packets of cotton pads strewn across the dressing table. Oh and did I mention it was only £4.99?! An absolute bargain in my book.

The other bits and pieces I picked up are a lovely Neroli soap in a gorgeous bird tin as a little gift for Mum, the Cath Kidston HoneySuckle Hand Cream (which was half the retail price) and a darling little wicker basket for storing some of my wool in.

The hand cream smells gorgeous and I plan on taking into work with me and keeping it on my desk. The basket is lined with a gorgeous floral pattern and has so many uses. They also had one lined with a strawberry fabric which I may have also had my eye on.

Now I know I'm getting ahead of myself but I plan on making my nearest and dearest hampers filled with little trinkets and gifts for Christmas and I saw SO many gift ideas whilst I was in TK Maxx. These baskets would make the perfect sized basket lined with christmas fabric. I know I know its only August but I'm determined to be one of those organised people this year who knows what they're doing instead of panicking the week before Christmas.

Do you love TK Maxx as much as I do? I cannot head back there until my next payday as I cant promise that I will show as much restraint next time.
