New Hair

Well, I finally did it. I bit the bullet and had a trim. I was hanging onto a couple of inches of seriously damaged ends, and this weekend I finally said goodbye. To be totally honest, it was absolutely essential, I havn't had it cut for almost 12 months and my hair was becoming increasing difficult to manage after washing. The knots were on another level. I don't really abuse my hair much, I havn't coloured it in years now, and I don't really use that many products on it. I just let it do its thing.

So many people have commented how long my hair is, and what my secret is. Don't dye your hair too much, don't abuse it with too much heat, use a good nourishing shampoo and conditioner and a heat protection spray, and definitely limit any kind of back combing. It's a funny one because when it comes to growing your hair there's always what I like to call "the purgatory phase" This is that awful period when your hair stays at the same length and refuses to budge (or so it seems) Once through this phase I've found your hair becomes long almost overnight. Sounds ridiculous I know but it's almost like I woke up one day and my hair was just.. well.. long. I only really notice the length when I see a photo of myself, it's taken four long years to get my mermaid hair and let me tell you it was absolutely worth it.

I had a couple of inches off and some shaping around the front. It was all getting a bit Hanson brothers and that's never a good look. A few shorter layers around the front soon fixed that though. I went to my local Toni and Guy who were very reassuring, made me feel at ease, and did a fantastic job. So long split ends!
