Messy Hairstyle Tutorial

So after receiving so many lovely comments and questions about my messy hairstyle, I thought I'd share with you how I achieve this look. Some days I completely leave it to do its own thing, but when it needs a bit of styling this is what I do.

First of all wash your hair, if you have very thin or fly-away hair, or want to make it even easier for yourself to achieve this look - dont use any hair conditioner after shampooing. If you can't go without conditioning your hair use as little conditioner as possible. In these photo's I washed my hair with Tresemme Naturals Shampoo and used absolutely no hair conditioner.

When you've washed your hair, wrap it up in a towel and leave it for around 10 minutes - this will allow the towel to soak up some of the excess moisture.

This is what my hair looks like after taking the towel off. If you can go without combing your hair with a brush or comb, then dont brush it - this adds to the overall look. If you can't not comb your hair then try just combing it through with your fingers instead.

Take a small amount of mousse - obviously if your hair is longer than mine feel free to use more than I have shown in the picture - but dont apply too much, we dont want any crispy ends!

Then tip your head upside down and scrunch the mousse through the ends and then roots of your hair.

This is for reference what my hair looks like at this point...

And thats it. Leave your hair to dry naturally if you can. I havn't experimented with a hairdryer as I'm avoiding using heat on my hair - but I imagine blowdrying will only make this into a big frizz bomb!

This is after around 40 minutes...

And this is after a couple of hours...

I would then recommend going to sleep with your hair down (this all adds to the bedhead look) and then in the morning just apply a good hairspray to create some more volume at the roots, and if you need it scrunch in a little more mousse! Thats all I will do to it in the morning. And thats it, it really is that simple. Remember it is supposed to look messy! The reason I say to use a good hairspray is because the cheaper ones will make your hair go tacky, sticky, and then ultimately crispy, which makes this hairstyle look too "done" My hairspray of choice is Loreal Elnett.

In terms of what mousse I use, I opt for Loreal full volume tecni.art mousse.

However another good alternative would be Tresemme Naturals Humidity Resistant Weightless Volumising Mousse - or another simple mousse from Boots or Superdrug.

I really hope this has been useful, it really is simple to achieve this messy, texturised hairstyle, just avoid using too much product as it will ultimately weigh your hair down and leave it looking limp. One of the biggest tips I can give if you struggle to make your hair look like this is to try and not use conditioner before styling. Obviously condition it when you don't want to achieve this look, but when you are wanting to get that "bed head" look sometimes not using conditioner can make all of the difference!

Alexander McQueen Skull Rings (plus a few more)

One of the questions I get asked the most about is my Rings. If you've followed me for a long time, you'll know that I'm a big fan of rings. I've built my collection for several years, and this by far isn't all of them - but these are a selection of my absolute favourites. If you have any more specific questions about any of the rings shown, just leave a question in the comments or ask me on Twitter (@kelanjo19) and I'll answer as best as I can :)

I was lucky enough recently to add 2 fabulous Alexander McQueen Skull rings to my collection - one more demure than the other. I'm also planning on purchasing another next month ;) I'm well aware that big skulls and bold rings aren't to everyones taste but I love them and absolutely cant get enough of them! I think when it comes to rings, a good idea is to invest in one or two real beauties and mix them up with more affordable options from Topshop, Primark, or ASOS, that you can swap and change up depending on your mood.

The rings below were bought from a variety of places, but mainly Harvey Nichols, Topshop, Thomas Sabo Leeds, and ASOS.
So without further ado...

Kelanjo.com

I'm extremely happy to now be officially at Kelanjo.com! You may not have noticed when you clicked onto this post through blogger but you'll have automatically been redirected to my very own dot com! I made a very basic mistake when trying to manually move my blog across, I wont overcomplicate things by trying to explain but I was basically creating A Records when I only needed to create one CNAME Record.
If you want to know how to manually move your blog to a domain the instructions are here. But dont follow the bottom step of creating A Records like silly me! If you can I'd highly recommend you use the option to buy a domain through blogger, as Google takes care of everything for you.

If you've ever wondered how Kelanjo is pronounced its Kel - An - Jo, as opposed to Kel - n - Jo :)

A few bits and Bobs

So I bought a few little bits and bobs today I thought you might like to see. I spent today at the gym having my first training session with a trainer going through all of my vital stats - establishing my height, weight, blood pressure, goals, all that good stuff, and then popped into town for a wander. This is what I ended up with.

Barry M Mushroom - Finally! Its only taken how many months for me to find it!

The New Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara - I saw it on offer and thought "Why not?" I'm in need of a new mascara so lets see what this is like!

River Island Lioness Diamante Ring - This is similar to the Kenneth Jay Lane Tiger Ring I'm after - so this will do for now!

Dainty Deer Necklace from New Look - Adam chose this for me and said it was cute :) For £2.99 How could I refuse?

This simple black bracelet also from New Look will look great with a mish mash of other bangles and bracelets.

Simple ballerina pumps from New Looks - A bargain at £8 and will go with pretty much any outfit.

I'm now going to get ready to head into Leeds for a meal and drinks to celebrate my besties birthday!

Happy Birthday Karen! Love ya Long Time XX

Haircare

So if you cast your mind back you may remember an bleaching incident I had last year when I was rocking blonde locks.

To cut a long story short the hairdressers screwed my hair up and I suffered massive breakage at my roots. Asa result I coloured my hair as close to my original colour as I could, and had it all chopped off. When I say chopped off I mean I had it cut really short into a graduated bob.

I liked the bob and in some ways think it looks better in this style but I missed my longer locks and have been growing my hair ever since.

Photo taken in October 2009.

December 2010

I've had the hair cut since the initial chop, and had the bob levelled off at the very beginning of April 2010.

April 2010.

I havn't coloured my hair at all since February 2010 so well over 6 months, and I'm trying to completely grow my natural colour back and just let it do its own thing!

After the whole hair drama I started getting into Professional Haircare, and  I wanted to know what Professional Hair Products you recommend, seeing as I'm about to buy some new Shampoo & Conditioner.
I've tried a Dumb blonde by Bedhead, but these have been my favourites so far:

Kerastase Resistance: These were what I used directly after the Hair disaster! These are fantastic for seriously damaged hair and work hard to fix the hair from the inside out.

Kerastase Lait Vital and Frederic Fekkai Protein Rx: These conditioners were a gift from Laura quite a while ago and I thoroughly enjoyed using them. You can really feel the difference after using these conditioners.

So I'd love to hear what your favourite Shampoo's and Conditioners are! I will make a purchase based on the comments on this post and do an update when I've bought and used it. I'm open to absolutely any suggestions!
