New Years Resolutions.

For the last 4 years my new years resolutions have been exactly the same. There has been 2 of them give or take each year, and each year I am even more determined that I will fulfill the resolutions. They have been:

1. Lose weight and get to goal
2. Stop Swearing

So far I havn't achieved either of these resolutions, although had success with both to varying degrees, and after careful consideration I have decided to mix it up a bit and decide to do things a little differently. I've been thinking about something different. Something out of the ordinary. Something I've always wanted to do but always shrugged off because to be honest it never felt attainable. Something that will make a big difference to my life and me as a person. The above resolutions are something I'm continuously working towards rather than resoluting to do.

So here they are my 2 New Years Resolutions.

1. To learn a new language properly. Either French or Spanish.
I've always ALWAYS wanted to speak another language. In fact make that several other languages. I'd love to be able to travel to other countries and to properly interact with the people there, not expect that they should speak English just "because." In my second year of university I actually signed up to do a module in either Chinese or Spanish. The ridiculous lesson schedule made it impossible to do and I had to take a Banking and Finance module instead. This year I'm absolutely determined to learn either French or Spanish, I'm not completely sure which one yet, but its going to happen.

2. To sign up for a race of some form. In an ideal world this would be a half marathon. Although I fear if I was to share this notion with my close friends and family, they would basically say "Yeah Right, OK Kelly whilst the novelty lasts" and then I would begin to doubt myself, which would ultimately lead to a self fulfilling prophecy that I couldn't do it. So maybe the trick here is to sign up for it and train regardless without telling anybody. Or maybe start small and run a Race for Life first. Although to me that seems like a cop out and I should shoot for the sky. I dont like doing anything by half measures, and I am a little bit of an extremist at times. Its all or nothing. Seeing as though I'm only a running novice at this point in time, any advice on this resolution would be much appreciated.

There is also one other thing I'd love to do but I dont want to commit to too many different things and then not follow through. So many people can talk the talk but not walk the walk. I'd absolutely love to learn British Sign Language. I just feel that this would be such an invaluable skill to have and I have always admired people who can do this well. Maybe I will look into this more and make an informed decision at a later date.

So there you have it, those are my two New Years Resolutions. You may be thinking the same as me, well what will make these two any different. I dont know the answer to that, but if I never try, I'll never know!

What are your New Years Resolutions?

Monday Summary

Despite my mammoth blog post yesterday I still wanted to do my weekly Monday Summary! It doesn't feel the same without one.

1. Christmas: I feel so lucky to have received so many wonderful gifts and to be able to spend the festive period with my loved ones. Its such a special time of year and I really do try to make the most of it. It always seem to go by so fast dont you think? I am glad to get back to some normality on the food front though, my skin is awful thanks to all the booze, sweets, and junk I've consumed, but its Christmas and it'd be criminal not to! Back to my routine now though and feeling great.

2. My new Camera lens. I got a new lens for Christmas which at first I wasn't too sure about at all, but now I absolutely love it. its so amazing for close ups which is brilliant for photographing products, I know I'm going to get a lot of use out of this baby. Now all I need is a snazzy bag to store my lenses in.. obviously ;)

3. Watching films. I dont get to watch movies as often as I'd like in my day to day life, so I always take advantage of Boxing Day and the Christmas period in general and cram in as much film watching as possible. Yesterday I watched (in this order) The Ant Bully, Enchanted, Knight and Day and then Inception. I loved it. I think I may also bring out a book this evening to get stuck into, I've got one by Sophie Kinsella I picked up a few weeks ago which I really want to read.

4. Just because I wanted to share with you my favourite Christmas Song EVER: Push Play, turn it up, sit back and enjoy!

5. Four to Follow: Pale Division, The Scent of Obsession, Blushing Ambition, Little Miss NC25

Christmas Photo Diary

Wow what a couple of days. I've had the most wonderful Christmas, ate more food than I ever thought was physically possible, drank, laughed, received some lovely presents, and just had a really special few days. I took a total of 306 photographs since Thursday and I thought some of you would like to see a selection :)

First of all here's how I wore my make up for the last few days. pretty much how I wear it every other day of the year. Maybe for New Years Eve I should wear some glitter on my eyes? :)

On the Nails we have Ali's Big Break the perfect festive red!

Starting on Thursday I went to my parents businesses works do (wow thats a mouthful haha)

Whats your poison? I'm a Vodka Lemonade kinda girl..

Can you say tipsy?

You know when it gets to this point of the night its time for TAXI!!

Then came Christmas Day! I spend Christmas morning and day at home then go to Adams parents for a second Christmas Dinner, drinks and cards, which usually descends into chaos and results in me losing all of my money. Not many photos were taken in the evening because to be honest I was too busy drinking bucks fizz and pear & apple vodka!

First up its time to see what I got for Christmas!!

From L-R
Givenchy Ange ou Demon one of my favourite perfumes from Secret Santa
Pandora Bracelet and pretty charm from Dad
Thomas Sabo Eiffel Tower Pendant & Necklace from Adam
Pretty Earrings from Karen & Gaz
Thomas Sabo Skull Charm from Nicola & Gareth (Adam's Brother and his lovely girlfriend)
Topshop Rings from Mum & Dad
Classic Ipod from Mum & Dad
River Island Boots from Mum & Dad
Piano Ornament with a necklace inside from Dad

Canon EF 50mm f1.8 Lens which all gift photos were taken with from Adam

Then it was time for Christmas Lunch Number 1 at Chez Kelanjo where I helped mum cook for the family :)

Then it was onto Adams Mum and Dads for Christmas Dinner Number 2 with his family.

Drinking Bucks Fizz! :D

Gorgeous Nicola with her adorable son Harry!

After a ridiculous amount to drink, as we were preparing to head home, I asked Adam to pass me the spare pair of shoes I'd asked him to pack before we left my house because I didn't think I'd be able to make it to the taxi in my huge wedges. I thought it was absolutely hilarious when I put them on that he had packed me two odd shoes! Also I dont even know why the hell I had these socks on!?! Brilliant!!

I hope you enjoyed this little snippet into my Christmas Festivities! I know lots of you said you like my Photo Diaries so I really hope you like this and I'll continue doing them in the future! Lots of love to all xxx

Monday Summary

Well, its only 5 days to Christmas. Can you believe it? Maybe its just me but it feels like its come around extraordinarily fast this year. I think think like for every one else in the country this week as been a hellish one. With the UK coming to a standstill thanks to the deadly ice and snow everywhere, tensions have been high, and the last minute Christmas Panic is setting in! So here's what's been going on this week!

1. I got 3 out of the 5 items on my Christmas list this weekend! How lucky am I? I'm not allowed them of course until Christmas Day so they are wrapped up underneath the tree, ready for Christmas Day.

2. This week was a good week for food and cooking. I had the most delicious meal of Gammon, egg, and chips. One of my favourites that I don't have often. It was so so good. Then yesterday Adam and I baked cupcakes for the first time ever! I had a little bit of a mishap with the food colouring though and ended up ruining my nails in the process, which wasn't that great!

3. This week saw an epic effort on the fitness front. As I mentioned in yesterdays post, I jogged for 10 minutes straight which I havn't done for at least 18 months. It was a pretty special moment. A combination of determination and a wicked playlist on the ipod got me through it.

4. This week saw my monthly meet up with my amazing friends Gemma and Nicola. You know the drill, 3 friends, the Trafford Centre, shopping, chatting, eating, perfect. I look forward to this occasion every single month. It doesn't matter if we're all broke, we still make the effort to meet up and go for some food. This time saw me drive myself to Manchester for the first time ever. Which was also a pretty big achievement for me! I no longer have to rely on Adam to take me, which is a good thing and a bad thing. Considering now I can just take myself whenever means I'm more inclined to spend lots of pennies! We exchanged presents and I got some lovely goodies from them both. From Gemma I got a lovely little watch ring from Topshop and a cute cupcake hand cream. From Nicola I got a gorgeous pair of skull earrings from Butler and Wilson. It was such a lovely day as always, lots of laughter and storytelling was had, and I can't wait until next months meet up!

5. Three to follow: WhereDidUGetThat, Ashley Ring My Bell (The girl who played Bambi in Secret Diary of a Call Girl), The Haute Pursuit

Diet, Fitness, Weight Loss: How do I keep going?

One of the questions I get asked about a lot is how I keep so motivated when it comes to diet and weight loss. If you've followed me for a while you will know that I have struggled with my weight for years. I lost a lot of weight a couple of years ago and felt great. Then with the last year of university stress and numerous other issues that I wont bore you with the details of, I regained most of the weight I lost. Then came the self loathing and constant beating myself up for allowing myself to get to this stage again. I dont really see myself as an inspiration, but lots of people frequently tell me that I am. I see myself as someone who lost a lot of weight, got really fit and healthy, and then threw it all away. But I also see myself as someone who did all of that and still kept going. I didn't give up. I made the decision to lose the weight again and take steps to getting fitter and healthier.

Me at my slimmest.

I've been reluctant to talk about my efforts this time around, in terms of my blog and more specifically Youtube. Last time around I vlogged and blogged about my ups and downs, which although I helped a lot of people in the process, it became a case that if I messed up I felt like I was letting everybody down, and thats one of the worst things you can do when you're on a health and fitness journey. You have to want to do it for you, and nobody else. So I made the decision that this time around although I would still update about how I was getting on, it would be nowhere near as intense as the first time around.
So I've started to lose the weight again and I'm feeling great, but one of the things I'm guilty of is losing a chunk then losing the plot. So what do I do to overcome that? I just keep on going and take one day at a time. I concentrate on eating healthily most of the time, and increasing the amount of exercise I do. One of the key things that has had a huge effect on my efforts is investing in a treadmill. It allows me to hop on and do a 20 minute power walk whenever I fancy, instead of braving the Arctic weather conditions to run outside or attempt to make it to the gym. I'm slowly working up to my first fitness goal of jogging for 30 minutes straight. Then I'm going to look at signing up for some kind of race next year. The thing here to note is that a couple of weeks ago I could only run for 1 minute, and today I jogged for 10 minutes continuously. You have to keep your eyes on the prize at all times. If you're wanting to lose weight, or get fit, you have to know why you want to do it, and keep that at the front of your mind. For me, its that I want to feel better in myself, be fitter, and be able to wear the clothes I want to wear. I want to be able wear shorts with bare legs without feeling like I want to kill myself, and my ultimate goal is to fit into a pair of skinny jeans and absolutely rock them, not feel like a fat girl wearing a slim girls clothes.
And how do I do it? How do I keep going? I take one day at a time. Some days I'll have eat everything in sight (and love every mouthful) but the next day I'll reign it back in and watch what I eat. I think its important to actually enjoy life, and not be a slave to the gym which believe me I have been there in the past. Everything in moderation, including moderation as the famous Oscar Wilde quote says. As it currently stands my exercise routine consists of the treadmill and various strength exercises I do at home, and in terms of diet, I'm following the Weightwatchers plan and using the new app on my iphone. I'll keep you all updated along the way, lots of people have asked me to do a post about the new Weightwatchers plan, which I will write and upload this week so keep your eyes peeled for that. Let it never be said that you can't be the person you want to be. Because believe me when I say that you can. xxx
